Maintaining Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR)

The Joint Secretary to the Government of West Bengal
No. 09-SE(LAW)/SL/5S-239/2020 Date: 04.01.2022
Subject: Request for maintaining Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR)

Sir,
It has come to knowledge of the School Education Department, Government of West Bengal that the Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) of some Primary Schools (list enclosed) running under District Primary School Councils is not being maintained in consonance with the Schedule of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009. Moreover, some Primary Schools are also being run by locally arranged teachers.

Hence, I am directed to request you to instruct all District Primary School Councils:

(1) In order to maintain Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) (30:1) as per schedule of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2009, to transfer Primary School Teachers from Schools having excess teachers than standard Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR) of 30:1 to the schools having deficit Pupil Teacher Ratio (PTR). While calculating the deficiency, count of locally arranged teacher (so arranged temporarily) be ignored.

(2) At the same time, the locally arranged teachers should be restored to their original schools after posting of regular teachers.

Yours faithfully

Sd/- Joint Secretary
to the Government of West Bengal
