2nd State Level Selection Test for Recruitment of Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X/Secondary) and Assistant Teachers (Classes XI-XII/Higher Secondary) 2025 in Government Aided/Sponsored Secondary/Higher Secondary Schools.

        In terms of the Judgment and order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No.4800 of 2024 dated 3rd April 2025 read with order dated 17.04.2025 in MA No.709 of 2025.The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has been directed to initiate fresh Selection process to the posts of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX and X in Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools and to the Posts of Assistant Teachers for Classes XI and XII in Higher Secondary Schools. The Commission and the Government of West Bengal have already applied for review of the said Judgment and order and this exercise is strictly subject to the outcome of the review petitions and guidelines of the Hon'ble Court, to be followed by the Commission and the Government. 

         This notification is being issued for conducting 2nd State Level Selection Test (SLST) for Selection to the posts of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX and X in Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools and to the posts of Assistant Teachers for Classes XI and XII in Higher Secondary Schools in Government Aided/ Sponsored Secondary / Higher Secondary Schools in West Bengal against the vacancies directed to be filled up by initiating fresh selection process and further vacancies as may be received from the WBBSE (West Bengal Board of Secondary Education under the West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection for Appointment to the Post of Assistant Teachers for Upper Primary Level of Classes (except Work Education and Physical Education), Classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII) Rules 2025 ("Rules, 20225" hereinafter).

              The entire process is being carried out strictly without prejudice to rights and contentions of the State, Commission and the Board in their pending review petitions in the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India and without intending to create any equity or right to any party who may choose to participate in this process. The Commission reserves its right to cancel. withdraw, rescind or amend the selection process or the terms and conditions thereof at any time hereinafter without assigning any reason. 

                The selection process will be governed by the West Bengal Service Commission Act 1997, and subsequent Amendments, the Rules 2025 and relevant NCTE and State Government Guidelines.
 
               1.Any citizen of India only may apply for the post of Teachers i.e. Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X) and Assistant Teachers (Classes XI-XII) in Government Aided/ Sponsored Secondary /Higher Secondary Schools.

             2.Eligible candidates with the Minimum qualification laid down in the Rule 2025 may apply online only (and by no other mode) through the official website of the West Bengal School Service Commission (i.e. www.westbengalssc.com).

         The applicants must fill in all details mandatorily required in the form and make necessary payment of fees as applicable. 

        3.Apart from the norms/ conditions laid down in this Advertisement and the Rules 2025, candidates should specifically note the following:
                       (i) Male candidate shall not be eligible for appointment in any girls' school.
                       (ii) Seale of Pay: As per extant State Government norms.
              (iii) All applicants must submit his/her form carefully since after final submission of application form online, no further rectification will be allowed.
                    (iv) Information on equivalence of subjects and information (How to Apply/Pay and a short FAQ) will be notified before the commencement of online application process.
                     (v) Incomplete and /or wrong applications are liable to be rejected.
               (vi) Candidates may refer to the Rules 2025 and will be bound by the further terms and conditions contained in the Rules 2025 and other applicable guidelines.

5. Admit Card
             Admit Card of the SLST will be available on the official website (i.e. www.westbengalssc.com). Candidates are requested to download the same. Date for downloading of the Admit Card will be announced in due course, but at least seven (07) days before the examination date.

           7. Manner of Selection to the Post of Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII):
Selection to the post of teachers for classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII in Schools shall be made on the basis of written examination, evaluation of qualifications of the candidates and Oral interview and lecture demonstration to be determined by the Commission in the manner specified in the Rules 2025.
  • Question Papers will be set in English and Bengali in Language papers it will be in the same language. For Sanskrit it will be in Bengali.
  • Candidates will be allowed to apply under any one medium of instruction for the post of Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII).

         8. Preparation of panel for the posts of Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII): 

           (a) After the evaluation of the OMR Sheet or answer sheet of the written examination, the Central Commission shall prepare and publish in their website details of all the candidates to be called for Interview (Interview List) strictly in accordance with preliminary merit score category wise on the basis of the Rules 2025.
              
       (b) The Central Commission shall also prepare and publish in Official website (i.e. www.westbengalssc.com) merit lists of candidates prepared subject wise, medium wise, gender wise and category wise on the basis of marks obtained in written test, evaluation of academic score and marks of Oral interview and lecture demonstration on the basis of the Rules 2025.

     (c) The Central Commission shall prepare and publish in Official website (i.e. www.westbengalssc.com) merit based panels of candidates (subject wise, medium wise, gender wise and category wise) of the merit list equal to the number of relevant vacancies and shall also prepare and publish in their website a category wise waiting list of the rest of the candidates of the merit list not included in the panel on the basis of the Rules 2025.

                (d) In the event of omission or error or any mistake of any nature to fill in the OMR Sheet by a candidate, the OMR Sheet of such candidate may not be evaluated and the application of such candidate will be liable to be rejected.

               (e) There will be only one correct option, carrying one mark, out of four options provided for every question.

             (f) The Central Commission shall publish such panels and waiting lists of candidates in the website of the Commission as well as at the offices of the Regional Commissions. A copy of the same will be submitted to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, School Education Department (SED) and the Directorate of School Education for information.
9. Validity of Panel and waiting List
                  Each panel and waiting list shall remain valid for one year from the date of first counselling.

               Provided that the names of candidates shall not be recommended against any post other than the post applied for or against any vacancy which has not been notified (Final vacancy as defined in the Rules 2025). Only in the case when a candidate willing to join the vacancy recommended for him fails to join due to some issues arising out of vacancy problem, can an alternative arrangement be provided.

11. Eligibility for 2nd SLST 2025

(A) Educational qualification including professional qualifications for selection of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX-X in Schools

Minimum 21 years and maximum 40 years. Upper age limit is, however, relaxable by 05 (five) years for Scheduled Caste (SC)/ Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates, 03 (three) years for Backward Class candidates and 08 (eight) years for the Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates

N.B.:
          1. Relaxation of 5% marks in educational qualification will be allowed in case of reserved candidates.

         2. The minimum qualification as prescribed by the NCTE attained on or before the last date of receiving of online application and mentioned in the application form shall only be considered for academic and professional qualifications.

        3. Age limit shall be considered on the basis of age as on 1st of January 2025.

        4. Age relaxation will be given to the candidates who have been given the benefit of age relaxation as per order dated 03.04.2025 of the Hon'ble Supreme Court.

           Provided further that a person who comes under more than one category shall be eligible for only one benefit of relaxation which shall be considered most beneficial to him/her.

          Qualifications obtained on or before the last date of receiving online application and mentioned in the application form shall only be counted for academic and professional qualification.

      For consideration of belonging to reserved categories, the certificates issued by the competent authorities of only the Government of West Bengal on or before the last date of receiving online applications shall be treated as valid documents.

       Candidates belonging to such categories from other sates will have to appear as General Candidates only without any concession/ relaxation in respect of Age and Fees and cut-off/ Qualifying Marks.

12. Medium of Instruction
            A candidate  willing to be selected as an Assistant Teacher in classes IX and X and Classes XI and XII having Bengali or English or Hindi or Nepali or Oriya or Santhali or Telugu or Urdu as the medium of instruction shall have passed Bengali or English or Hindi or Nepali or Oriya or Santhali or Telugu or Urdu, as the case may be, at the appropriate level of examination as specifically laid down in the Rules 2025.

13. Related information
            (a) A candidate willing to be selected as an Assistant Teacher for Classes IX-X and XI-XII in any Government Aided/ Sponsored school should satisfy himself about his eligibility before applying and shall be personally responsible in case he is not eligible to apply as per the given eligibility criteria.

            (b) If a candidate is allowed to appear in the State Level Selection Test (SLST), it does not mean that the eligibility of the candidate has been finally verified.

           (c) Selection does not vest any right in the candidate for appointment.

         (d) The eligibility of a candidate, who has qualified shall be verified by the Commission at any time up to the final counselling stage and then at any time by the appointing authority.

          (e) No TA/DA will be paid to the candidates for appearing in the examination/Interview.

14. Important Notes for 2nd SLST 2025

         (i) The candidature of candidates not complying with the instructions and Rules 2025 shall be rejected.

        (ii) Candidate should enter his/her particulars i.e. Name, Father’s Name/ Mother’s Name and Date of Birth (DOB) as per his/her Madhyamik Certificate or as per Certificate/s of equivalent Board Examination.

        (iii) It is requested that each candidates should submit his form carefully as after submission of Online Application form, no further rectification will be allowed.

           (iv) Commission will duly inform candidates through website Notification the details of Helpline Numbers before commencement of receiving online applications for assistance of the candidates.

Q.2. Who can apply for 2nd SLST(AT), 2025 Examination ?
  • Any citizen of India only may apply for the post of Teachers i.e., Assistant Teachers (Classes IX-X) and Assistant Teachers (Classes XI-XII) in Government Aided / Sponsored Secondary/ Higher Secondary Schools.
  • Eligible candidates with the Minimum qualification laid down in the Rules 2025 may apply online only (and by no other mode) through the official website of The West Bengal School Service Commission (i.e., http://www.westbengalssc.com).
Q.3. What will be the whole process for 2nd SLST (AT) 2025 Examination ?

The selection process consists of the following stages:
  • OMR based Written test
  • Evaluation of educational qualification and prior teaching experience.
  • Oral interview.
  • Lecture demonstration.
 
Q.4. Please provide some details of Written Examination. 

The written examination of 2nd SLST (AT), 2025 have:
  • Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based written Examination.
  • The paper consists of 60 questions of 1 mark each, with a duration of 1 hour 30 mins. For PH candidates 20 minutes of additional time will be provided.
  • No negative markings will be applicable.
  • Candidates can retain a duplicate copy of OMR they have written.
  • Model answers will be uploaded as per Rule 2025.
 
Q.5. What is the total Score Calculation for IX-X & XI-XII of 2nd SLST (AT) 2025 Examination?

Selection to the post of Assistant Teacher for Classes IX-X and XI-XII shall be made on the basis of marks obtained in written examination, educational qualification, prior teaching experience, oral interview and lecture demonstration, determined by the Central Commission, in the following manner:
  • Written Examination (OMR-based) : 60 marks.
  • Academics.
  • (a) Educational Qualification : 10 marks.
Based on marks of Graduation or Post Graduation in the subject for which applied, whichever is higher (Only for Classes IX-X), according to the following formula:

60% and above 10 marks
Below 60% to 50% 8 marks
Below 50% 6 marks


                     No rounding off of percentage is allowed

      (b) Prior Teaching Experience : 10 Marks
      At the secondary level in a government or government aided or government sponsored school, calculated on the basis of 2 marks for each year of service in a substantive post.

      Oral Interview : 10 Marks
      (d) Lecture demonstration : 10 Marks
Q.6. How can I apply for marks in the Experience parameter ?

    During application, you will be asked whether you want to claim credit for Experience. If you choose yes, please fill in certain details (like date of initial joining and school name, DISE code of the relevant institution and teacher ID).

Q.8. In which ratio the candidates be called for the Interview-cum-Lecture Demonstration will ?

      The Central Commission shall prepare and publish in its website a preliminary list with details of the candidates to be called for interview, subject to verification of credentials and eligibility, category-wise on the basis of preliminary merit score as defined in Rule 2(l) (k) in the ratio of 1.6:1 of final vacancies, that is, 1.6 times as many candidates as there are final vacancies, as far as practicable. If there is more than one candidate at the last score (cut-off score), all such candidates will be called. A candidate has to obtain the cut-off marks for being merit listed in the relevant category.
 
Q.9. What will be the schedule of 2nd SLST(AT) 2025 Examination ? 

The schedule for 2nd SLST(AT), 2025 Examination:
  • Submission of Online Application: Opening:16th June 2025 (5:00 PM)
  • Closing:14th July 2025 (5:00 PM)
  • Last Date of Receipt of Application Fee: 14th July 2025 (11.59 PM)

      Tentative Time of the Written Examination: The written Examination will be held in the first week of September 2025. The exact date/s will be notified later.
 
Q.11. What are the Eligibility criteria (Educational qualification including Professional qualifications) for 2nd SLST 2025 of selection of Assistant Teachers for Classes IX-X and XI-XII ? 

         Please refer to Schedule : I (A & B) of the West Bengal School Service Commission (Selection for Appointment to the Posts of Assistant Teachers for Upper Primary Level of Classes [except Work Education and Physical Education], Classes IX-X and Classes XI-XII) Rules 2025. Age relaxation will be given to SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates and also such candidates who are eligible for age relaxation in terms of the directions contained in the judgment and order of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024 dated 3rd April, 2025 read with order dated 17th April, 2025 in M.A. No. 709 of 2025
 
Q.12. How long the Panel will be Valid ? 

Each Panel and Waiting List shall remain valid for 1(One) year from the date of the first counselling. The Central Commission, may, however, with prior approval of the State Government, by a written order, extend the validity of each panel for a maximum period of 6 (Six) months after the expiry of the one year period.
