Guidelines for conduct of Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025
With reference to the subject mentioned above, the undersigned would like to inform him/her that as in last year the tri-layered Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 is going to be held in this year also to extract and identify the Pre-Madhyamik science talents (Students of Class 9) from all corners of West Bengal. It is an initiative from the Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS). The Layer I Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 is schedule to be held on 15th June 2025. The dates of Layer II and III Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 will be informed in due course of time. The criteria for appearing Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 is as follows:
Top five students of class IX of ant recognized Government/Government Sponsored/Non-Government aided/DA getting school of West Bengal (nominated by Headmaster/Headmistress (HM) /Additional Headmaster/Headmistress (AHM) /Teacher in Charge (TIC) of a school based on the performance (Total % of marks obtained) in the Annual Examination of Class VIII are eligible to apply for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 (Layer-I)
The examination will be based up to Class VIII Science and mathematics syllabus of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education, Model Question can be download from www.jbnsts.ac.in.
The detailed information of Layer I, II, III Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025 is as follows:
First layer Examination : Intra Unit Competition

1st | 15th June 2025 (Sunday) | 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm (3 Hrs) | Full Marks:100 Physical Science:40 Life Science: 30 Mathematics : 30 | MCQ : 50 nos (Negative marking of 1/2 marks for each wrong answer). |
Examination Centers:
One examination center in each of the Units (Blocks/Borough/Municipal corporations) or merging more than one units (if necessary).
Outcome of 1st Layer:
- Top 3 candidates of each Unit will be awarded a Book Grant of Rs.1,000/- (One thousand only) provided they have to score at least 40% of the total marks in Layer I. For selecting top 3 students, if there is a tie in the last position, number of the recipients of Book Grant may be increased accordingly.
- Top 10% students from each Unit will qualify for Second Layer of Examination and will be recognized by participation certificate provided they have to score at least 30% of the total marks in Layer I. For selecting top 10% students, if there is a tie in the position of the last qualified students, number of selected students for second layer of examination may be increased accordingly.
- For each unit, students who have scored 50% of the total marks in Layer-1, will qualify for the Second level irrespective of his/her rank and will be recognized by participation certificate.

Second layer Examination : Intra District Competition
- This test will be conducted for the qualified students from first level of all unit of a district

Examination Centers:
At least one examination center in each academic District
Outcome of 2nd Layer:
- Top 10 candidates of each district will be awarded a Book Grant of Rs.2,000/- (Two thousand only) provided they score at least 40% of the total marks in Layer II. For selecting top 10 students, if there is a tie in the last position number of the recipients of Book Grant may by increased accordingly.
- Top 20% students from each district will qualify for Third Layer of Examination provided they score at least 40% of the total marks in Layer II. For selecting to 20 students, if there is a tie in the last position, number of the recipients of Book Grant may be increased accordingly.
- For each district, students who have scored 60% of the total marks, will qualify for the Third level irrespective of his/her rank and will be recognized by participation certificate.
Third layer Examination : Intra State Competition
- This test will be conducted among top 20% qualified students from Second level of all Districts of our State provided they have to score at least 40% of the total marks in Layer II and students who will score 60% of the total marks in Layer II

Examination Centers:
One examination centers in each Educational District = 25 centers across West Bengal
Outcome of 3rd Layer:
- Finally, top One hundred (100) students from all over West Bengal will be selected as scholarship awardees.
- Scholarship (for 2 years) of Rs.1000/- per month during class 9 and class 10 and annual book grant of Rs.2500/- for two years and certificate.
- Each of the selected students will get the opportunity to participate two science workshops and there will be training session for individual subject wise National Olympiad Examination.

How to Apply for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025
Only Headmaster (H.M.) / Assistant Headmaster (A.H.M.) / Teacher in Charge (T.I.C.) of a school can apply for their students for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2025Please read all the instructions below, before starting the application process :
Part-I
School's Registration
by Headmaster (H.M.) / Assistant Headmaster (A.H.M.) / Teacher in Charge (T.I.C.) of the school
- Fill up the School UDISE Code as per Banglar Shiksha Portal in the specified box and click on Submit button.
- School's Name, Block /Municipality / Borough of a Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places (if UDISE Code is correctly provided).
- Fill up the boxes of School's Address, PIN Code, Name, Mobile no. and E-mail ID of Headmaster (H.M.) / Assistant Headmaster (A.H.M.) / Teacher in Charge (T.I.C.) of the school.
- Upload the scanned copy (in a PDF file) of the Recommendation letter (format given) of Headmaster (H.M.) / Assistant Headmaster (A.H.M.) / Teacher in Charge (T.I.C.) of the school in School's Letter head containing top 05 (Maximum) Students' Name, Guardians' Name, and their Percentage (%) of marks in Final Examination of Class-VIII and the Signature of the individual student.
- Please check once again to verify that all the boxes are filled properly before uploading the scan copy. You cannot edit any information after submission.
- Click on the "Please Proceed for Students' Registration" button.
- A new page will appear which shows the message - "Your School Record is successfully uploaded". Then you have to click on the "Please click here to proceed for registration of students".
- Student registration page will be opened.
- Part-II Student's Registration
Responsibility has to be Headmaster (H.M.) / Assistant Headmaster (A.H.M.) /
Teacher in Charge (T.I.C.) of the school
- School Code, School's Name, Block/ Municipal Corporation and District will automatically appeared in respective places.
- Fill up the 1st Student's Name, Guardian's Name, Gender, Student code / ID number as per Banglar Siksha Portal.
- Fill up the contact number and E-mail ID of the student (if any).
- Fill up the percentage (%) of Marks (in aggregate) of the student obtained in the Final Examination of Class VIII.
- Upload the scanned copy of recent Passport size photograph of the student in JPG format in the specified place for that particular student.
- Upload the scanned copy of full Signature of the student in JPG format in the specified place for that particular student.
- Fill up the Capcha Code properly, appeared in the adjacent box.
- Click on the Register Button.
- A message "Student Record Successfully Updated" will be shown and then it will automatically back to the page for registration of the next student. At the bottom of the page the list of the already registered students for the same school will be displayed in a table.
- Part-III
- Please repeat the same (Sl. No. 2 to 9 of Part-II) procedure for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Students one after another.
- After submission of the information of the 5th candidate, "Already 5 (five) students (Maximum number) have Registered their name from (respective School's Name)" - message will be displayed and Registration of further students cannot be made.
- Please take a Print out the list of all recommended candidates and please note their respective registration numbers for your future reference.
