Disclaimer
Vidyasagar Science Olympiad is a new endeavor from the Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search for identifying and nurturing Science talents of West Bengal.

The first layer of examination has been scheduled on 8th May 2022 during 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm. The schedule may be postponed/ cancelled in case of any unavoidable circumstances and consequent Government restrictions. The authority will not be responsible for postponement/ cancellation of this endeavor.

Background

  • Vidyasagar Science Olympiad is a great initiative from the Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search, Kolkata for identifying and nurturing Science talents of our state when they are very young.
  • The students of class IX are of special significance as it is the period when students get preliminary exposure to the advanced level of every spectrum of Science.
  • Enrich their in-depth scientific understanding which in turn will be beneficial to strengthen the pool of human resource of our state in the field of science and technology.

Objectives

  • Identification of talented science students of West Bengal.
  • To expose the young minds to the diverse fields of Science and Technology and motivate them for studying science.
  • Capacity building through science Workshops, seminers and by hands on activities in state-of-art laboratories.
  • To develop inventions and innovations aptitude by encouraging their creative ability.
  • To nurture the talented students to face the challenges of national and international science Olympiads.
  • To strengthen the contribution of the scientific fraternity from the state in the global perspective.


Eligibility Criteria

School Category:

  • All Non-government recognised Aided and Sponsored schools.
  • All D.A getting school under West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

Students' Category:

For students of Class-IX:

Top 5 students of Class IX of a school nominated by Headmaster/Assistant Headmaster/ Teacher in Charge of a school based on the performance in the Annual Examination of class VI. 

(As this examination was the last examination in Physical mode for this batch. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, no such examinations, in physical mode, were conducted in class VII and VIII for this batch.)

For students of Class-X:
Already registered as nominated by Headmaster/Assistant Headmaster/ Teacher in Charge of a school based on the performance in the Annual Examination of class VII.
(For nomination the Headmaster/Assistant Headmaster/ Teacher in Charge of a school is solely responsible) 


Syllabus

For students of Class-IX:
The examination will be based up to Class VIII Science and Mathematics syllabus of West Bengal State Board. Model questions can be downloaded from website.

For students of Class-X:
The examination will be based up to Class IX Science and Mathematics syllabus of West Bengal State Board. Model questions will be uploaded at website in due course of time.

First layer Examination : Intra Unit Competition

  • Two separated examinations for students of class IX and X at the same date, time and format.
  •  This test will be conducted among the schools under a unit. For larger municipalities, more than one center may be allotted. (Total~348 units : 341 block and Municipalities + 7 Municipal Corporation).
  • Each unit of all individual district of West Bengal will be covered.

  • Top 3 candidates of each Unit will be awarded a Book Grant of Rs.1,000/- (One thousand only)
  • Top 10% students from each Unit will qualify for Second Layer of Examination and will be acknowledged by participation certificate.

  •  This test will be conducted for the top 10% qualified students from first level of all unit of a district.

  •  This test will be conducted for the top 20% qualified students from Second level of all Districts of our State.

Scholarship 
Class IX: 
  • Scholarship (for 2 years) of Rs. 1,000/- (One thousand only) per month during class IX and X and annual book grant of Rs. 2,500/- (Two thousand five hundred only) for two years and certificate.
Class X: 
  • Scholarship (for 1 year) of Rs. 1,000/- (One thousand only) per month during class X and a book grant of Rs. 2,500/- (Two thousand five hundred only) and certificate.
  • Each of the selected students will get the opportunity to participate in two science workshops and there will be training session for individual subject wise National Olympid Examination.

Activities and Time schedule for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2021 and 2022


Activities and Time schedule for 8th May, 2022
There will be separate arrangements (Halls / Rooms) for the students of Class 9 and Class 10

  • Each examination room of the centre will be opened.
  • Checking of seating arrangement for the students (with specified Vidyasagar Science Olympiad Registration Number on the desk).



11:00 AM

  • Dismantling of Box containing packets of Question Booklets, OMR Sheets and Attendance Sheets in the Strong Room of the Centre in presence of Centre Superintendent and Officer-in-Charge.
  • Check and confirm the counting of all above documents and fill up the Prescribed format for ‘Opening the Confidential Material’ (Enclosed herewith)


11:15 AM
  • Centre Superintendent in presence of Officer-in-Charge will open packets containing Attendance Sheets for the candidates, Question booklets and OMR Sheets in the strong room.
  • Candidates will be allowed to take their allotted seats in the examination halls.

11:15 to 11:30 AM
  • Distribution of Attendance Sheets for the candidates, Question booklets and OMR Sheets among the Invigilators for different examination rooms according to the seat allotments of the candidates.

11:30 AM
  • Ensuring of reaching of Attendance Sheets, Question booklets and OMR Sheets in every examination room of the Centre.



11:30 to 11:45 AM
  • Checking of Admit Cards and seat allocations of the candidates by the Invigilator(s) in each and every examination room of the Centre.
  • Candidates will be allowed to enter into examination hall by showing the copy of their Admit Cards. If any candidate is unable to produce his/her Vidyasagar Science Olympiad Exam Admit Card, he/she has to show a photo identity card.


11:45 AM
  • Distribution of OMR Sheets.
  • Invigilator will instruct the candidates to read the instructions provided on OMR Sheets and clarify if needed.
11:45 to 11:55 AM
  • Filling up of candidates’ Identity information on OMR sheet.


11:55 AM
  • Start distribution of Question Booklets among the candidates in each examination room.
  • Invigilator will instruct the candidates to read the instructions provided on Question Booklet and clarify if needed.













12:00 Noon onwards
  • Examination starts.
  • Invigilators’ Responsibilities/ Activities during the examination: 
➤Checking of properly filled up candidates’ Identity information on OMR sheet. (Name, Vidyasagar Science Olympiad Registration No., Candidate’s Signature on the OMR Sheet etc.)

➤Invigilator shall put signature in the space provided on candidates’ OMR Sheet and Admit Card after checking each candidate’s identity with their Admit Cards.

➤Taking candidate’s signature in the Attendance Sheets. The absent candidate(s) would be marked as ‘A’.

➤Under any unavoidable circumstances and valid ground, up to 12.30 p.m. candidates may be allowed to enter into the examination hall. Invigilator is empowered to take the decision in this issue.

➤The candidates will be allowed to submit their OMR sheets and leave the examination hall only after 2.00 p.m. Question Booklet would be taken away by the candidates.

➤Invigilator should ensure that all the appearing candidates have submitted their OMR sheet before leaving the examination hall.

➤Unused OMR Sheets are to be counted and packed.


3:00 PM
  • Examination ends. Submission of all used OMR sheets. Invigilator should ensure that all the appearing candidates have submitted their OMR sheet before leaving the examination hall. Student will take away question booklet with them.



3:05 to 3:30 PM
  • Used OMR Sheets are to be counted, matched and arranged according to Attendance Sheets.
  • Cross verification with the Unused OMR Sheets to get the total allocation for the examination room
    and to be returned to the Centre Superintendent along with the filled in Attendance Sheets of the
    candidates.









4:00 PM

  • Centre Superintendent will make necessary arrangement to encase the Post-examination confidential examination materials containing Used and Unused OMR Sheets (in separate packets labeled as USED / UNUSED), filled-in Attendance Sheet and filled-in Prescribed format for ‘Opening the Confidential Material’ securely in proper envelop with Seal. The sealed box/packet has to be tagged in the following way:

Online Training for Vidyasagar Science Olympiad 2021


Online Training of HOIs of schools having class IX in connection with conducting of Vidyasagar Science Olympiad

In order to identify talented science students of Class IX (Nine) of West Bengal, Vidyasagar Science Olympiad Scheme has been introduced by the Government of West Bengal. The entire programme including the holding of examinations in Block/Municipality, District and State level will be conducted by Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS), a Registered Society under the Department of Higher Education, under the direct supervision and control of School Education Department, Government of West Bengal. In connection with this matter, an hour long online training programme in Google Meet will be held on 12.04.2021 in five phase starting from 11:00 am taking 96 schools in each phase where Head of the Institution (HOI)/Assistant Headmaster (AHM) of the school will have to attend the training programme.

Schedule of training with meeting link will be intimated in due time.
Topmost priority should be given in the entire process for the benefit of the students.
